Why do manufacturers put ridges in their processing containers such as cans and plastic jars?

It irritates me not to be able to empty a can or jar completely because of indentations that I cannot get removed even with a spatula!Why do manufacturers put ridges in their processing containers such as cans and plastic jars?
So their machinery can hold on to it! Frozen is usually better if they have it anyway. Healthier too!

Structural integrity. And a little bit of marketing.








They can make more from the sauce you dont use in some cases.
