Why have i got bumps/ridges on my fingernails?

Well i do bite my nails and i have noticed some ridges on my fingernails? Is this some lack of calcium or something?

Like Alison, with nail buffers. That's the only thing that smooths mine out.Why have i got bumps/ridges on my fingernails?
most nails have some sort of ridges and bumps in them, you can get a nail buffer which will smooth them out. the one i use has 4 sides but you only need one of the sides to smooth the ridges, the others help bring natural oils to the surface (so i've been told). white patches are normally a sign of a lack of calcium. If you live in UK, then i get my nail buffer from wilkinson!

I've had them for 50 years Jake. Not sure why ,I eat a good diet. I think it's just the way I am.
