I took him to the dentist yesterday and he wasn't very cooperative so the dentist didn't really explain what was wrong with him! He just said that there may not be enough enamel to seal off his teeth so we would have to put stainless steel caps on his teeth. Just wondering if anyone knew anything about this.My child has deep ridges in front teeth. Is this enamel deficiency or just cavities. Dentist unclear about thi
The mamelons are the three tubercles on the cutting edge of the incisors. Often you see ridges on the front surface of the incisors. They are more prominent on some people than on others, especially just after the permanent teeth have erupted.

But there are relatively uncommon hereditary conditions associated with deficient enamel production. Is there a family history of deafness? fragile bones? These are occasionally associated with deficient enamel formation.

You would get a more detailed opinion from a pedodontist, a dentist who specializes in children.
