Why are shallow earthquakes associated with mid-ocean ridges? What type of fault is responsible?

i have no idea what the answers is .. really need some help :)

The crust is pulling apart and the top of the ridge has a graben or rift valley in it with normal faults on each side -- as the crust pulls apart, the crust slides down the walls of the valley. Hence the quakes are shallow.
