How are mid-ocean ridges and deep sea trenches related to plate tectonics?
Mid ocean ridges and deep sea trenches are both examples of boundaries between tectonic plates. At a mid ocean ridge, two plates are pulling apart. This allows molten rock to swell up between the plates and harden into basalt. In a deep sea trench, one plate is diving underneath another, causing a deep trench at the edge of the upper plate.
