I remember losing teeth, and the new ones that came in having ridges on them. Over the years, they kind of just disappeared. But why do we have the ridges on them? Does anyone know?
Thanks! I'm just curious...Why do we have ridges in our teeth when we just get them in?

Why do I have ridges on the tip of my teeth?
Im 14 And I Have Ridges On Most Of My Teeth..Why do I have ridges on the tip of my teeth?
Ok yeah they are just ridges that come in with your permanent teeth, and I think they are there to help the teeth cut through the gums while they are erupting. If that's not the reason they are there, I don't know.
I do know: I had them. Mine were really ugly. I hated them. And then I just forgot about them, and the next time I thought of them they were gone!! Yup, they wear away because they arn't as strong as your actual tooth material. So yup, they will go away, just forget about them and they will eventually happen.
good luck! Why do I have ridges on the tip of my teeth?
Same here!!! I have braces and I am going to ask the ortho if he can ';file'; or if there is another method! I hate it! It lookes weird especiallty when all of my friends teeth don't look like that either! If there is no way to fix, guess we'll just have to endure it and look at it in a positive way- like its a special characteristic!! :)
This is normal all permenant teth when they come out (Erupt ) they have these ridges.
Don't worry about them this is perfictly normal
Because those are your permanent teeth. You baby teeth did not have ridges..they were smooth. That just means that your teeth tougher when used for eating.
Everyone does.
Your teeth have been through a lot in 14 years. Give them a break.
Ridges are nothing!
me too

Why do oceanic ridges segmented?
when i look at geologic map, i always see the oceanic ridges segmented, why are they not straight? what is the mechanism behind this segmentation? and why are they segmented to small segments on the both sides? Why do oceanic ridges segmented?
The upwelling and extrusion of magma and magma bodies is not homogeneous across the length of the ridge. In a simple view, the magma rises in bubbles, so the ridge consists of a series of spreading centers with variable rates of opening (and these rates are not constant through time at a given location). The different segments are connected by perpendicular transform faults that accomodate these variations.

What do the patterns of rock ages on the mid ocean ridges tell geologist?
The rate and direction of continental drift. What do the patterns of rock ages on the mid ocean ridges tell geologist?
By examining the patters of ridges, it can be found that new ocean bottom is being created as lava comes up out of the cracks.
Other information can be discovered about the chemical make up of the Earth's mantle.
;-D That is also both a very hot and a very cold place. What do the patterns of rock ages on the mid ocean ridges tell geologist?
it tells them how many years ago there was a water formation suchas a lake or ocean. the different colors is what helps them make their hypothesis.
hope I helped u!

Horst and graben exist along mid-ocean ridges, where new crust is being made. Explain why.?
A horst is a block of rock which has risen between two faults. A graben is a block of rock that has sunk between two faults. So i need to know why they are found in mid-ocean ridges. This question is from Science Focus 3 by Kerry Whalley, Peter Roberson, Greg Rickard and Isabella Brown.Horst and graben exist along mid-ocean ridges, where new crust is being made. Explain why.?
A horst is not exactly a block that has risen between two faults. Actually, it is just a block that has not sunk, between two other blocks that have sunk (grabens). This kind of formation is typical of a spreading crust, where the tectonic plates are moving away from each other. That's exactly what happens in mid-ocean ridges. The spreading movement generates faults and makes some blocks to sink into mantle.

Pros and cons of having my teeth filed / removing ridges?
What are the pros and cons of having my teeth filed for appearances' sake? My front teeth still have the ';baby teeth'; ridges since they never touched to grind and smooth themselves. When I had braces the orthodontist wanted to file my teeth, but my mom said no.
Does it hurt? Is it expensive? Is there any danger to it?Pros and cons of having my teeth filed / removing ridges?
Hi there,
No it doesnt hurt, as long as they only file the enamel, the ridges will wear down themselves over time, I'm guessing you are early teens? Your front teeth are not meant to grind together, the wear comes from biting and tearing food, the grinding is done by your back teeth. Not sure of the cost tho.

The fracture zones that offset portions of mid-ocean ridges are examples of what type of boundary?
convergent?
transform?
divergent?
or collision? The fracture zones that offset portions of mid-ocean ridges are examples of what type of boundary?
divergent is the answer you seek.
NOTE: My sincere apology for the wrong answer. I try to always be accurate to a fault. I see the question commingles concepts that weren't in vogue when I was in school. Fracture zones aren't technically faults and there are ';transform'; faults and transform plate boundaries but not fracture zone boundaries- in my dated experience. Lately it has become vogue to call them ';faults'; however, my bad.
I am used to only discussing boundaries as formally defined activity at the plate margin. I could not think of a transform boundary at the mid-oceanic ridge and mistook the correct answer as a ';foil'; designed to make one understand that the mid-oceanic ridge is a divergent boundary and not a transform boundary like the San Andreas Fault. I just blew reading the question correctly. Once again very sorry and If I had caught the other answer I would have reviewed it objectively and edited my answer. Thank you Sally for the right answer. The fracture zones that offset portions of mid-ocean ridges are examples of what type of boundary?
transform boundaries, mid oceanic ridges themselves are a type divergent boundary, but the created material does not form uniformly along the ridge. This change causes fractures in the created material. These new segments move past one another, which is also known as transform boundary.

119 if I remember my trip to the US Mint correctly.
Odd, that it has 119, why not 120? or 115?How many ridges are on the side of a quarter?
A quarter has no sides because it is round.

The colors of peacocks and hummingbirds are the result not of pigments, but of ridges in the surface layers..?
of their feathers. By what physical principle do these ridges produce colors?
A)Reflection
B)Diffraction
Explain. The colors of peacocks and hummingbirds are the result not of pigments, but of ridges in the surface layers..?
Actually the plumage of an peacock is due to optical interference. This is what is written in wikipedia about the plumage of a peacock
....Many of the brilliant colours of the peacock plumage are due to an optical interference phenomenon (Bragg reflection) based on (nearly) periodic nanostructures found in the barbules (fiber-like components) of the feathers........
Optical interference is the addition (superposition) of two or more waves that results in a new wave pattern.
As most commonly used, the term interference usually refers to the interaction of waves which are correlated or coherent with each other, either because they come from the same source or because they have the same or nearly the same frequency. The colors of peacocks and hummingbirds are the result not of pigments, but of ridges in the surface layers..?
id assume diffraction the ridges will act like prisms
The reflecting of the particles does not affect the frequency of the wave. there-fore the ridges do not produce colors because of the way they reflect.
On the other hand, diffraction cannot occur unless a light wave is passed through a medium into another medium. And since it seems like the light is not passing through anything in the wings... I' m not sure which physical principle it would be.
To set yourself to rest, i would go with diffraction, Even though it contradicts what i just said. haha good luckmy myspace

I have ridges in my nails whats up with that?
okay so my mom says that its a lack of a vitamin but shes not sure which vitamin it is? so what vitamin is it? is it even a lack of vitamins? whats going on?I have ridges in my nails whats up with that?
Vertical nail ridges, which run from the cuticle to the tip of the nail, are fairly common. They don't indicate serious illness and typically increase with age. Although their exact cause isn't known, heredity may play a role.
If your fingernails change color or develop horizontal ridges, see your doctor. These changes may indicate an underlying health problem.
heres a link to a vitamin thats made to strength nails, not just to buy them just maby to get an idea of what vitemins help your nailsI have ridges in my nails whats up with that?
it's just because your nails are dehydrated. so a good buffing and drinking some water should get rid of that.
vitamin...listen to your Mom...A %26amp; D
Nail textures: Vertical ridges that appear on the nail can indicate disorders as simple as iron deficiency, poor absorption of vitamins and nutrients, overall poor health or they could indicate something as serious as kidney trouble. These vertical ridges, as well as bumpy nails, can also suggest that one is prone to developing arthritis. Ridges running horizontally across the nail can indicate physical or mental stress.
Vertical ridges are pretty common. If you want to get rid of them just use a nail buffer.
yeah u need calcium. try not to put ur nails in h2o alot it will mess them up. u can buy some stuff from sallys that brush on ur nails like a clear coat and called calcium nails also nail life and nail magic is good. good luck

My toenails are peeling, they have ridges and they are easily splitting?
What is wrong with them? I never had this problem, and now I can't even wear them bare. It looks too nasty. My toenails are peeling, they have ridges and they are easily splitting?
Here are some causes to your peeling, splitting, and ridged nails:
Ridged nails
Ridges running either the length or width of the nail plate can have a number of causes, including:
Age-related changes
Trauma to the nail matrix
Overzealous attention to the cuticles
Fever or illness
Eczema
Rheumatoid arthritis
Lichen planus infection.
Splitting nails
This condition is characterised by the splitting or layering of the nail plate as it grows off the nail bed. Common causes include:
Having constantly wet hands, especially while using soap and washing detergents.
Frequently using and removing nail polish.
Continuous mild trauma such as habitual finger-tapping or using the nails as tools (to pick between the teeth, for example).
There are other factors as well If you need any futher help please do not hesitate to contact me~My toenails are peeling, they have ridges and they are easily splitting?
I don't know about the other two, but ridges on toenails and fingernails is a sign of iron deficiency. Make sure you intake 100% of that mineral a day.
Add protein and biotin to your diet.
Maybe you have fungus
fungus problem.. go see a doctor before they fall off. that happened to my sister.
take calcium%26amp;wear a bandage
Go to Walmart and buy a product called Hair, Skin %26amp; Nails. It should only be around $5.00. You can find it with the vitamins. It works great.
sounds like a fungus...i know sounds really gross..go to your doctor..he should tell u exactly what it is..and if it is a fungus me or she can prescribe a topical medicine or even pills
You have Fungus in your toenails see a DOC asap!
A common nail fungus problem. It is treatable.
you may have either a need for vitamin E (easily splitting and ridges could be caused by a deficiency) or some sort of fungus (this may cause peeling..), check w/your pharmacist or doctor for the best treatment

When did cinnamon toast crunch add ridges ?
i thought the cereal was flat and softer now they have ridges on them is this new or have the always been that way? When did cinnamon toast crunch add ridges ?
I agree it is not a sale thing, I bought a big box from Costco and had a bowl right now and was just googling to see if anything had changed because of what you said it is harder sand looks to have less sugar and cinnamon on it. I remember losing teeth, and then getting new ones back with ridges in them...but as I got older, the ridges just kind of disappeared? Why are there ridges in them? When we get new teeth in, why do they have ridges in them?
you needed something to cut through your gums that way that your teeth could grow out. so as long as they went away your fine. When we get new teeth in, why do they have ridges in them?
Those ridges on the edge of the teeth are called mamellons. It is part of the normal anatomy of a tooth. As you got older and chewed and grind ed your teeth, they were worn away.
There are ridges so the teeth can break through your gums. The ridges go away after awhile.

What are ridges, trenches and hot spots?
What are they and what are the differences between them? Pls give me a detailed reason and a website if u can please help me with my assignment..What are ridges, trenches and hot spots?
They are all features associated with volcanic activity on Earth. Ridges form where tectonic plates move apart, e.g. the Mid-Atlantic ridge and Iceland. Trenches form in some cases where plates meet (The Marianas Trench off Japan's coast). Hot spots produce volcanic activity in areas far away from plate edges (such as the Hawaiian archipelago). What are ridges, trenches and hot spots?

Ridges occur at divergent plate boundaries typically in the ocean they are referred to as MORs Mid Ocean Ridges. The two most famous being the Eastern Pacific Rise and the Mid Atlantic Ridge; both of these ridges are the result of two plates moving apart slowly and liquid hot magma rises up in the void thus creating new ocean crust (basalt). As the magma reaches the the ocean water it cools quickly and lithifies into basalt and builds up over time creating a ridge.
Trenches occur at areas of ocean-continent crust convergent plate boundaries. When two plates collide the more dense of the two (the ocean crust) will subduct below the continental crust. The area where the subduction is occurring is typically where the trench is located.
A hot spot occurs commonly with convergent plate boundaries like trenches. The crust being subducted is forced down and the geothermal gradient causes the crust to melt and a thermal plume is generated (a big bubble of magma) this rises up and heats the crust overlying it. The Hawaiian islands are an example of a plate migrating over a hot spot.

Aleutian Islands
subduction of Pacific Plate under North America (Bering Sea component)
angle of subduction is increasing oblique toward the west, resulting in slower subduction, fewer volcanics
chain terminated by Kamchatka Peninsula
Aleutian Trench
water depth of trench increases westward as a result of less sediment input from smaller volcanic islands
almost filled, and extensively over-ridden by Alaskan accretionary prism in the east
Banda Arc
Australian shelf subducting northwestward under Timor
New Guinea-Moluccas subducting south/southwestward under Ceram
Banda Sea on over-riding plate
most of the islands in this arc are forearc ridge islands
see Kearey and Vine p. 202 for details
Bonin Islands
minor volcanic chain north of the Marianas
most immature of island arcs (youngest too?) - boninites (high Fe ol-opx andesites)
Dzhugdzhur Range
northwestern margin of Sea of Okhotsk, extension of Verkhoyansk Range
collision of Okhotsk shelf with East Siberian (Aldan) Shield
locus of earthquakes that mark an incipient, poorly defined collisional boundary between North American plate and Eurasian plate
Emperor Seamount Chain
older part of Hawaii-Emperor Seamount Chain (%26gt; 42 Ma)
extends from Midway Island to Kamchatka
Hokkaido
northernmost Japanese island, extends northeast into Kuril Islands
composed of multiple island arcs through much of the Phanerozoic
Honshu
main island of Japan
northern half (north of Tokyo) is a typical mature island arc, with Pacific plate subducting below North American plate
southern half (south of Tokyo) is a typical mature island arc, with Philippine Sea plate subducting below Eurasian plate
Izu Islands
northernmost extension of the Mariana-Bonin-Izu arcs, extending south from Izu Peninsula, Japan
immature island arc
Japan Sea Basin
complex basin between Japan and Korea/Russia
opened mainly in the Tertiary
central ridge (Yamato Ridge) may be half of a rifted arc
Japan Trench
extension of the Nankai Trench south
subduction of Pacific Plate below Izu-Bonin Islands
Kamchatka
volcanic peninsula in eastern Siberia
northward extension of the Kuril Islands
Kuril Backarc Basin
deep basin in southern Sea of Okhotsk northwest of Kuril arc
Kuril Islands
island arc between Hokkaido and Kamchatka
Kuril Trench
subduction trench of Pacific plate under North American plate
extends from offshore central Kamchatka to Hokkaido
Mariana Islands
classic young island arc setting
very high-angle subduction because this is the area of the oldest, coldest (subducting) ocean floor
deepest trench in the world (%26gt;10 km) because of cold ocean floor + virtually no sediment input
Mindinao Trench
long trench extending from central Philippines south to Indonesian islands
subduction of Philippine Sea plate below Philippine arc
Nankai Trough
name given to northern part of Japan Trench, north of Tokyo
New Guinea
large island, geologically the leading edge of the Australian plate
in collision with several small arcs (New Britain, New Ireland, Banda) and Ontong-Java Plateau
Ontong-Java Plateau
large submarine ancient hot-spot volcanic plateau
thickened Layer 2 oceanic crust, too buoyant to subduct, ';clogs up'; the west Pacific subduction zones north New Guinea and Solomon Islands
Parece Vela Basin
inactive back arc marginal basin with high heat flow in the eastern Philippine Sea
subduction now stepped east to the Mariana arc
Philippine Islands
large and complex mature volcanic arc
west vergent subduction of the Philippine Sea plate on the east; east vergent subduction of the South China, Sulu and Celebes seas on the west
Ryukyu Islands
island arc extending from Kyushu to Taiwan
Philippine Sea plate subducting below Eurasia
Sakhalin
island north of Hokkaido
probably the product of transpressional tectonics along the North America-Eurasia boundary
Solomon Islands
volcanic arc east of New Guinea
southwestward vergent subduction recently stopped by arrival of Ontong-Java Plateau
subduction now flipped to northeast vergent, Coral Sea (Indo-Australian plate) subduction below Pacific plate
switch in subduction orientation effectively transferred the Solomon Islands from the Indo-Australian plate to the Pacific plate
Taiwan
island uplifted at the intersection of the Ryukyu arc and Philippine arc
Philippine Sea plate subducted below Eurasia
West Philippine Sea Basin
area of Mesozoic ocean floor east of Philippine Archipelago
western half of Philippine

angle of subduction is increasing oblique toward the west, resulting in slower subduction, fewer volcanics
chain terminated by Kamchatka Peninsula
Aleutian Trench
water depth of trench increases westward as a result of less sediment input from smaller volcanic islands
almost filled, and extensively over-ridden by Alaskan accretionary prism in the east
Banda Arc
Australian shelf subducting northwestward under Timor
New Guinea-Moluccas subducting south/southwestward under Ceram
Banda Sea on over-riding plate
most of the islands in this arc are forearc ridge islands
see Kearey and Vine p. 202 for details
Bonin Islands
minor volcanic chain north of the Marianas
most immature of island arcs (youngest too?) - boninites (high Fe ol-opx andesites)
Dzhugdzhur Range
northwestern margin of Sea of Okhotsk, extension of Verkhoyansk Range
collision of Okhotsk shelf with East Siberian (Aldan) Shield
locus of earthquakes that mark an incipient, poorly defined collisional boundary between North American plate and Eurasian plate
Emperor Seamount Chain
older part of Hawaii-Emperor Seamount Chain (%26gt; 42 Ma)
extends from Midway Island to Kamchatka
Hokkaido
northernmost Japanese island, extends northeast into Kuril Islands
composed of multiple island arcs through much of the Phanerozoic
Honshu
main island of Japan
northern half (north of Tokyo) is a typical mature island arc, with Pacific plate subducting below North American plate
southern half (south of Tokyo) is a typical mature island arc, with Philippine Sea plate subducting below Eurasian plate
Izu Islands
northernmost extension of the Mariana-Bonin-Izu arcs, extending south from Izu Peninsula, Japan
immature island arc
Japan Sea Basin
complex basin between Japan and Korea/Russia
opened mainly in the Tertiary
central ridge (Yamato Ridge) may be half of a rifted arc
Japan Trench
extension of the Nankai Trench south
subduction of Pacific Plate below Izu-Bonin Islands
Kamchatka
volcanic peninsula in eastern Siberia
northward extension of the Kuril Islands
Kuril Backarc Basin
deep basin in southern Sea of Okhotsk northwest of Kuril arc
Kuril Islands
island arc between Hokkaido and Kamchatka
Kuril Trench
subduction trench of Pacific plate under North American plate
extends from offshore central Kamchatka to Hokkaido
Mariana Islands
classic young island arc setting
very high-angle subduction because this is the area of the oldest, coldest (subducting) ocean floor
deepest trench in the world (%26gt;10 km) because of cold ocean floor + virtually no sediment input
Mindinao Trench
long trench extending from central Philippines south to Indonesian islands
subduction of Philippine Sea plate below Philippine arc
Nankai Trough
name given to northern part of Japan Trench, north of Tokyo
New Guinea
large island, geologically the leading edge of the Australian plate
in collision with several small arcs (New Britain, New Ireland, Banda) and Ontong-Java Plateau
Ontong-Java Plateau
large submarine ancient hot-spot volcanic plateau
thickened Layer 2 oceanic crust, too buoyant to subduct, ';clogs up'; the west Pacific subduction zones north New Guinea and Solomon Islands
Parece Vela Basin
inactive back arc marginal basin with high heat flow in the eastern Philippine Sea
subduction now stepped east to the Mariana arc
Philippine Islands
large and complex mature volcanic arc
west vergent subduction of the Philippine Sea plate on the east; east vergent subduction of the South China, Sulu and Celebes seas on the west
Ryukyu Islands
island arc extending from Kyushu to Taiwan
Philippine Sea plate subducting below Eurasia
Sakhalin
island north of Hokkaido
probably the product of transpressional tectonics along the North America-Eurasia boundary
Solomon Islands
volcanic arc east of New Guinea
southwestward vergent subduction recently stopped by arrival of Ontong-Java Plateau
subduction now flipped to northeast vergent, Coral Sea (Indo-Australian plate) subduction below Pacific plate
switch in subduction orientation effectively transferred the Solomon Islands from the Indo-Australian plate to the Pacific plate
Taiwan
island uplifted at the intersection of the Ryukyu arc and Philippine arc
Philippine Sea plate subducted below Eurasia
West Philippine Sea Basin
area of Mesozoic ocean floor east of Philippine Archipelago
western half of Philippine
B&B What will Ridges reaction be to Thomas setting the fire?
Lets see how the big Ridge Forrester reacts to his son doing something hes so quick to judge every ne else. Rick should have threw him off the roof.B%26amp;B What will Ridges reaction be to Thomas setting the fire?
I know I hope Brooke lets Ridge, Taylor %26amp; Stephanie have it. They think their kids are saints.B%26amp;B What will Ridges reaction be to Thomas setting the fire?

I'm waiting to see that too. l think maybe Ridge will keep it to himself and just probably tell Stephanie. Thing is Stephanie is Pam's sister and Thomas is her grandson, she wouldn't want either of them in jail, so it should be interesting to see how things play out.
lmao! (but Ridge can fly for he is an angel...excuse me while I barf...)
Ridge will probably look at Taylor and say with his handsome face, ';no, doc, not our son. why did he not do a good job? that son of mine. I have to teach him how to do this right...';
Then Brooke will have a cow and then they will break up
He will be flabergastid and out of his mind with concern over his son apparent anguish over the there family situation and think hard on all the mistakes he has made in the past and on all his decision that mostlikely led to his son's actions!
I think it's the other way around...Ridge should have taken care of him when he had the chance.
He will cover it up,the show is really getting stupid.

Why do my fingernails split and have ridges and what can I do to prevent them?
You should try taking vitamins, (they sell hair and nail vitamins).I also heard It could be that you need more calcium(seeing that fingernails and toenails are also considered ';bones';) If all else fails, you can buy nail strengthener and hardener nail polish . =)Why do my fingernails split and have ridges and what can I do to prevent them?
Nails are a mirror into our health..
If you go to a doctor they will be able to tell you what your body is missing.. as in vitamins, minerals etc..
also have yourself checked out to make sure you do not have a nail fungus or something to that effect..
Once you have done that.. have yourself a good manicure done and follow the information they tell you..
Good hand cream for hands and nails work wonders..
and a good buffer will help with the ridges..Why do my fingernails split and have ridges and what can I do to prevent them?
There are several things. First, you could use a sally hanson strengthener / hardener nail polish. It comes in clear if you don't like all the color.
You could try prenatal vitamines. They make your hair and nails beautiful.
Knox Gelatin is something sold in pharmacies and grocery stores. It is orange flavored. It will make your nails grow and get stronger. It really works. I've tried it in the past, and my grandmother swears by it.
sometimes split fingernails are the only clue that you have an illness or nutritional deficiency.
Trim them more often. That's usually the only problem. : o )
I hear plain geletin works wonders to strengthen nails
Usually eating healthier gets rid of the nail problems or if you already are try the nail strengtheners.
Gaurantee you will NEVER have fingernail problems ever again ........... have your arms amputated from the elbows.

What causes ridges that run across your fingers and toe nails?
u need more fruit %26amp; veggies...or vitaminsWhat causes ridges that run across your fingers and toe nails?
Everyone has them to some degree. My understanding is that they're caused from growth patterns. No need to worry unless you get discolored nails or they fall off due to fungus. What causes ridges that run across your fingers and toe nails?
vitamin deficiencies If I'm not mistaking Vitamin B
I thought it had something to do with calcium
not enough calcium drink milk it clears it up for me just takes a while
Ridges or (corruguations) in nails occur when nail growth is uneven, usually because of illness or injury. Gentle buffing can minimize ridges. Try a Ridge Filler to help level the nail surface, making shallow ridges and other imperfections practically disappear while conditioning with Calcium and Pro-Vitamin B5.
Hope this helps! ~Bon

Why do my nails have ridges on?
I have like total ridges on my nails! I've had them for like totally ever what like are they? and how do I like get like totally rid of them? Why do my nails have ridges on?
calcium dieficiency? lots of people have them, try eating more dairy foodsWhy do my nails have ridges on?
Wow you type/say Like alot, lol j/k
Well the ridges are caused from a number of things, diet, vitamin def, dryness, or just neglect. Do the ridges go down the nail or across. If down then you simply need some attention and thats a manicure, and you can rid the ridges by simply LIGHTLY buffing them away with a fine fine or white buffing block. SOme ridges are caused by trama from hitting them against something or an underlying health issue. This you will have to see a dermatologist. Good luck to you. HOpe it helped.
If you are vegetarian, it could be due to a deficiency of B12. Or, like the poster above said, calcium.
It could also simply be age or genetics, in which case there isn't much you can do.

Why do my fingernails have ridges?
My fingernails have ridges and one fingernail in particular just will not grow. If it does grow a little then it breaks off. also why are my nails so soft? Why do my fingernails have ridges?
Your nails reflect your health, and what you do. Harsh chemicals when cleaning can make nails soft. Doing heavy gardening, and carpentry can make them dry and soft. Any severe sickness will show up as ridges in your nails, months after when you are well. Chemotherapy, for example, causes ridges in nails. You could have an undiagnosed disease going on, or just a vitamin deficiency. When you go to your doctor, be sure to mention this to him.Why do my fingernails have ridges?
you probably have HIV, just kidding, you have a vitimin difenceny idk wut one u need more of, look it up. After you get the vitimin in you the nails will start to grow healty and hard again. there soft cuz there peeling, and the riges are making them peel. so yeah.

I took him to the dentist yesterday and he wasn't very cooperative so the dentist didn't really explain what was wrong with him! He just said that there may not be enough enamel to seal off his teeth so we would have to put stainless steel caps on his teeth. The mamelons are the three tubercles on the cutting edge of the incisors. Often you see ridges on the front surface of the incisors. They are more prominent on some people than on others, especially just after the permanent teeth have erupted.
But there are relatively uncommon hereditary conditions associated with deficient enamel production. Is there a family history of deafness? fragile bones? These are occasionally associated with deficient enamel formation.
You would get a more detailed opinion from a pedodontist, a dentist who specializes in children.

Not sure exactly what you are referring to...if you mean do those ridges have a purpose, yes, they are for water run off. Not sure what you mean by ';nips'; though.

What causes fingernails to have ridges and then sometimes split down these ridges?
Ridges on the nail are, unfortunately, mostly down to genetic causes. Also though you can't change hereditary factors, you can smooth the ridged nail surface with a buffer and buffing cream. However, if you have only recently developed ridges on your nails, this could be a sign of anaemia, and you may want to consult your doctor.

Horizontal ridges on both thumb nails?
I have horizontal ridges on both thumbs. All the rest of my nails look fine. Does this represent an iron deficiency?Horizontal ridges on both thumb nails?
It may or it may represent a zinc deficiency. Try gently smoothing the ridges with a nail buffer sold at drug stores first.Horizontal ridges on both thumb nails?
Ridges usually mean stress that may have affected nail growth at one time, then the ridges shows up as the nails grows. But that makes more sense if more nails involved. These are called beau's lines
But, if some trauma affected your thumbs only and affected the nail growth, this would explain why only the thumbs are involved.
Good news is that this is a temporary affect that occurred on the nails. The nails will otherwise grow normal, unless of course, you have another stressful situation or trauma. Stress could include medication, trauma, or a recent illness.
PS Iron deficiency would affect all nails and would show up differently.
Try buffing them.

Received a check and letter from Ridges financial services stating that I won ALL state lottery, is it scam?
I also deposited the check, what will happen?Received a check and letter from Ridges financial services stating that I won ALL state lottery, is it scam?
If any one recieves a check and a letter, doesn't pose any problem to him but has to really find out whether the check is genuine or not. However, he has posted the check in the bank and at best the check will get bounced. In such a case, he can have a solid ground to inform police about the event and police can trace out the person or a group which has sent the check. Over all the receiver doesn't have any risk other than a charge for bad check. However, he can still find out from the bank or by seeing the genuineness of the agency or group which has sent such a check. He can also find out if the check is genuine or not by getting the routing number and can go to the bank from where the check is issued.Received a check and letter from Ridges financial services stating that I won ALL state lottery, is it scam?
Yes it's a scam. I work in a bank and see things like this all the time. There is no such thing as free money. Sorry. Don't spend the money from the check. It will take a couple of weeks but will be debited from your account if it's bad.
Was there any mention of insurance in any of the papers they sent? I got something similar, the check was bogus and they wanted me to send them a check back for the same amount saying it was to insure the money being sent to me. Check with the bank in a few days and see if it cleared!!
Since you did not enter a lottery I would say its a scam, but then you deposit it, hey wait and see.
don't know but share the wealth with me.
If you actually played that lottery, it's possible that you really won. If you didn't play it, it's probably a scam. Be sure to read the fine print about the results of cashing the check. You might have signed up for some type of program or scam. Good Luck!
Sounds like a scam. You may have unwittingly agreed to some sort of offer by depositing their check.
Do some research on Ridges Financial Services before you draw any money off the check. Also, you could ask your financial institution about Ridges Financial Services and see what they say.

On my fingernails there are ridges that go horizontal across- how can i get rid of them/smooth them down?
They are the biggest problem on my thumbnailsOn my fingernails there are ridges that go horizontal across- how can i get rid of them/smooth them down?
Those are often caused by hitting your cuticle when the nails are still forming...the dented part grows out and you're left with little bumps! You should be careful with your hands.
You can tidy these up by using a nail file that resembles a sponge...I can't recall what they're called but I got one at the drug store. They're like filing sponges. Just file down the top of your nail a little, then apply a clear coat of polish (preferably a vitamin-enhanced one), overtop to keep it from drying out.
Alternatively, you can put on a darker shade of polish as this will hide the lines fairly well.On my fingernails there are ridges that go horizontal across- how can i get rid of them/smooth them down?
ooh i have those too except they go from the tip of my finger down to my cutical. verticaly.
just get a nail file and start in a round circular motion.
its just excess ';nail'; it wont hurt and the ridges should go down a whole lot

What are lengthy and narrow ridges of glacial gravels referred to as?
Youre probably talking about an esker, which is a deposit of material (not necessarily just gravel) that appears as a sinuous ridge, typically ranging between 10 and 50' in elevation. Eskers are formed in meltwater tunnels underneath glaciers. The water deposits the gravels and sands (etc) in the tunnel, and when the glacier melts from around the tunnel, it appears as a ridge on the landscape.

How many ridges does a dime have?
Just 4 fun %26amp; useless triviaHow many ridges does a dime have?
Dimes are made out of an alloy (a mixture of metals) of 91.67 percent copper and 8.33 percent nickel (before 1965, the dime was made out of silver). The dime has a edge with 118 ridges. This coin is 17.91 mm in diameter and is 1.35 mm thick - it is the smallest, thinnest and lightest US coin. How many ridges does a dime have?
The answer is 118
As a banker, I say 118
82 ridges
69
One hundred and eighteen.
Put there to keep people from slicing silver off when dimes were really made of 90% silver.

What does it mean if you have ridges running length-wise on your fingernails?
';Lengthwise grooves or ridges may indicate a kidney disorder and is associated with aging. An iron deficiency may also cause ridges.';
it also mentions something about stressWhat does it mean if you have ridges running length-wise on your fingernails?
Vertical nail ridges, which run from the cuticle to the tip of the nail, are fairly common. They don't indicate serious illness and typically increase with age. Although their exact cause isn't known, heredity may play a role.
If your fingernails change color or develop horizontal ridges, see your doctor. These changes may indicate an underlying health problem.
___
Koilonychia is an abnormal shape of the fingernail where the nail has raised ridges and is thin and concave. This disorder is associated with iron deficiency anemia. What does it mean if you have ridges running length-wise on your fingernails?
It means that you are not getting enough sex. it's called MSB or Massive Sperm Buildup.
It can be a nutrition problem, or it could just be your nails, depending on the severity. I've always had ridges and I'm not deficient in anything nutritionally. If you aren't either, but the ridges bother you, buff them. This will lessen the appearance of the ridges.
I was always told it was a vitamin deficiency but I can't recall what vitamin it was.
I'm not sure what you mean by lengthwise. However, here's some information that may help you. Ridges that run up and down (vertically) are a sign of iron deficiency, poor absorption of vitamins and nutrients, overall poor health or kidney trouble. Vertical ridges along with bumpy nails can be a sign of developing arthritis.
Ridges that run horizontally across the nail can be an indication of mental or physical stress.
Nutrition plays a big roll in our nail health. So be certain to eat healthy foods a drink lots of water.
Here is a website that has a tremendous amount of information about nail problems and the signs.
it also mentions something about stressWhat does it mean if you have ridges running length-wise on your fingernails?
Can someone describe how sea-floor spreading causes mid-ocean ridges?
this is for my homework and i really don't understand it at all and it's a research paper so i don't have a book on it and the rest of the internet is not helping very much. so please help me.Can someone describe how sea-floor spreading causes mid-ocean ridges?
Sea floor spreading is caused primarily by a combination of subduction-related pull, and by convective forces in the upper mantle. As the plates move away from one another in the mid oceanic regions, linear zones of tension are developed. These zones take the form of long, linear rift zones, where the central portion of the rift sinks and is intruded by upwelling magma from the relatively shallow mantle.
The magma which is intruded and extruded into the rift zone builds up a rim of igneous rock which forms the mid ocean ridge. As the plates continue to move away from the ridge the plates isostatically readjust and the ridge material which has moved from the spreading centre sinks slightly into the mantle, and is no longer ridge-like. The process continues, with more magma erupted at the plate boundary to build up a ridge.
Hope this helps! Can someone describe how sea-floor spreading causes mid-ocean ridges?
Mid ocean ridges are the result of sea floor spreading, not the other way around. Magma is carried from the the convection of heat up from the mantle to the surface/crust central trench of a mid-ocean ridge, where the magma solidifies into new basaltic ocean/sea-floor. The lateral (to the ede) movement of the heat convection cells moves the the new sea floor to the side of the central trench. Upwelling magma creates volcanoes on the sea-floor, just like it does land, although the subduction is what produces most Island arc and continental vulcanism, not sea-floor spreading.
AS the sea floor spreads ( plate tectonics) the seafloor becomes thin or forms a valley, magma can fill these valleys to form new ocean ridges. See website-google ocean ridges

Topographic maps? What's the main difference between contour lines of valleys and contour lines of ridges?
The contour lines are exactly the same.
However, the values attached to the contour lines will increase towards the top of a ridge and decrease towards the bottom of a valleyTopographic maps? What's the main difference between contour lines of valleys and contour lines of ridges?
one is for valleys the other is for ridges :)

What do horizantal ridges/indentions on toenails and fingernails mean?
Just a few months ago, I 've noticed that I've gotten indentions on my fingernails and toenails. I've read it could be from a number of things, hypotyroid, iron deficiancy, etc. Does anyone have any ideas? preferably someone with a medical background or with the same problemWhat do horizantal ridges/indentions on toenails and fingernails mean?
Sometimes it's related to nutrition, sometimes to stress (called Beau's lines, I believe), sometimes to external wear such as buffing or filing.
Are your nails healthy looking or are they yellow or green? Lifting in places? These would indicate fungus.
Have you changed your supplements in the past few months?
People sometimes get a ridge when start loading on biotin after taking a break (forgetting) for a few months. Have you been buffing them lately? If you are, that would be my first guess unless they're yellow or green.
OTHER CHANGES TO MAKE HEALTHY NAILS
- drink pure, clean water (6-8 glasses a day)
- avoid drinking alcohol
- avoid saturated fats and fried foods they stress the liver
- eat high fiber diet (brown rice, millet , and legumes are good)
- make sure to get vitamin A, C, and E - try a good quality multi vit/mineral supplement
- reduced sugar, candy, etc...
- avoid caffeine, hydrogenated oils, fried foods, meat, soft drinks
- reduce dairy products in your diet
- for healthy nails make sure you are getting enough protein
- keep nails shorter
- do not cut your cuticlesWhat do horizantal ridges/indentions on toenails and fingernails mean?
I have the some exact thing and I have hypothryoidism. I never knew that could cause it. But probably something got dropped on it.

How do ocean ridges and deep-sea trenches support the theory of seafloor spreading?
near ocean ridges new rocks are present
as you move farther from these ridges the rocks get older
(so that means rocks are continuously being formed at the ridge and then are moving away)
and then trenches pull the sea floor toward them, this is true because they get sub-ducted under the continental crusts and then when the lithosphere go down and melts magma forms which comes up and so forms volcanoes on the continental crusts. How do ocean ridges and deep-sea trenches support the theory of seafloor spreading?
%26lt;%26gt;The theory is that ridges represent weak spots that 'buckle' and trenches represent 'stretching' due to tectonic forces. Take a look at this site: http://platetectonics.pwnet.org/story_te鈥?/a>my myspace

When you sit down, does your stomach make ridges?
I always feel self conscious of my 'ridges' when i'm sitting..
What about you?
I'm not fat at all, it just happens when i sit. When you sit down, does your stomach make ridges?
it happens to everyone lol. dont worry about it. its just your almost ';compressed'; when you sit. so your torso is squishing all the skin you need to use when your standing and stretching. dont feel self conscious everyone has them When you sit down, does your stomach make ridges?
haha it happens to me too!!! im skinny too! it makes lines in my stomach and makes me self conscious! i guess we arent the only ones :)

hahahah that happens to me all the time i feel like a fat chub even though i have abs lol
It happens to everyone! Even the most skinny super models get ridges when they sit.. unless your Chuck Norris of course.
Yea everyone gets it =(
I always worry but Im trying not to =)))

Suppose a magnetic reversal occured today. How would new rocks at mid-ocean ridges differ from rocks from form?
How would the new rocks differ from the rocks that formed last yearSuppose a magnetic reversal occured today. How would new rocks at mid-ocean ridges differ from rocks from form?
The rocks that are currently forming are ';normally'; magnetized, i.e., indicate that they formed during a period in which the Earth had normal polarity of its N and S magnetic poles. If a mag. reversal were to take place today, the new rocks forming at the MORs would have ';reverse'; magnetization, basically orienting themselves with the new configuration of the magnetic poles.Suppose a magnetic reversal occured today. How would new rocks at mid-ocean ridges differ from rocks from form?
The iron particles after the reversal would be facing a different way than the previous ones. It is microscopic, so nobody can see it without studying it in a lab or something. :)
their only difference would in their magnetic signature it would be 180 degrees out of phase with the previous magnetic field
the north pole would be the south pole

Why do i have ridges on the very bottom of all my teeth?
i've always had have them and no one else my age does, i also haven't had braces yet.Why do i have ridges on the very bottom of all my teeth?
Ridges on your teeth are normal, they are called mammilons and are common in younger kids. As you grow and chew they tend to disappear but they can remain well into adulthood. Again..they are normal and occur during the development of your teeth. Why do i have ridges on the very bottom of all my teeth?
BTW, are you chewing any Betel nuts (India)? Don't. It could be something in your diet (eating or chewing) caused changes. Look also at your fingernails: any ridges or 'splitting'? If no pain with them, they're probably just a sign of things in earlier years... not to worry unless deep %26amp;/or painful. :)
well i had the same problem.
but when i got braces they said once you get older they will go down becuz you will cheew and eat alot more stuff.
but for the ones in the front they shave mine down when they take my braces off but i am sure they will go away
hope that helps =D
Ridges may also form if you have a high fever during tooth development.
i have that too! i think i might have heard that is is because ur teeth are still growing? =)
you are probly grinding your teeth but i don t know how to fix that
hhh, How old are you?

If by ';nutrients'; you mean ';salt,'; absolutely.
I have never heard that. That sounds kinda ridiculous to me. If anything, I would think that the ripple hold more grease and salt.....not so nutritious.
Mostly because they allow the scooping of even more dip, which, let's face it, can't hurt.
yup.
More air = more nothingness
nothingness is good for you, you know. Most people who are unhealthy are so because they don't have enough nothingness in their diets.

How do I get rid of ripples and ridges in my toe nails?
There is always a cause for this to happen so the question becomes what is the source of the problem as treating the source will allow the nails to grow out normally. At this time nutritional causes are rare and fungal infections have become increasingly common. The latter is most effectively treated with fluconazole but as this is not an FDA approved indication many physicians are not comfortable prescribing it although I will use nothing else. Success with fluconazole is near 100% while other anti fungals are only about 50% effective. How do I get rid of ripples and ridges in my toe nails?
what type of question is that. this aint no doctors office!!!!!How do I get rid of ripples and ridges in my toe nails?
calcium/vitamin D, a pedicure and time
increase your calcium intake. it means you are calcium deficient.
I use a nail buffer set (available in the nail care products section of any department store) to take the ridges out of my fingernails. I assume you could do the same on your toe nails.
Go get a professional pedicure and they will buff them out for you. If that's not an option then buy some ridge filler nailpolish. It is clear and it works ok. You have to apply several coats though. The pedicure works best though.
you can't get rid of your nipples.
A good pedicure will smooth them out
You can buy a nifty tool at your neighborhood beauty salon called a ';buffing file';. It's like a nail file, but instead of metal or sandpaper it is coated with a special substance that smoothes and occasionally shines yeh nails.
You should use a buffer, and file your toe nails down until they are all even. And you shouldn't have any ridges left.my myspace

Why are transform faults perpendicular to sea ridges?
..and why are earthquakes only concentrated at the center of these transform faults? (giving rise to continuous earthquake paths)Why are transform faults perpendicular to sea ridges?
Transform faults are subparallel to the direction of plate motion away from the spreading centre. They are perpendicular to the mid ocean ridge because they have formed in response to different rates of movement away from the ridge, which results in vertical fracturing in the crust subparalle to the direction of motion.
The available literature suggests that earthquakes related to these transform faults are developed along the fault, are shallow, running as deep as 25 km, and are smaller than magnitude 8.5. I am not aware that thy are concentrated at the centre of the fault. Why are transform faults perpendicular to sea ridges?
it's a hard one to visualise
first off you have a convergent plate boundary hence the ridge, Second you have a plate/plates that is/are moving on an axis of rotation, hence convergent, subduction, and transform boundaries.
this is how you get transform faults, it is the perpendicular motion of the plates turning on an axis of rotation. The earth quakes being centralised will be due to the pattern of the fault line, friction of plates.
transform faults are the result of force being applied vertically thereby finding a reciprocal state in salt water. these are the weakest areas of plate movement and as such are the first to show earthquake effects.

What deficiencies or diseases would be associated with very deep ridges both horizontal and some vertical?

Psoriasis can cause deep ridges and pitting of the nail. check out a dermatological site for pictures and info.(psoriatic nail dystrophy)What deficiencies or diseases would be associated with very deep ridges both horizontal and some vertical?
Horizontal ridges can be due to arsenic poisoning but are almost certainly normal. The nails grow from the nail bed and in most people the growth across the nail bed is a little up and down, which results in a corrugated appearance. It's quite normal and not a sign of any disease process.
I hope that was helpful.

Why do food tin cans have the corragated ridges in them?
you know the ridges i'm talking about. about 5/8ths of the can has corragated ridges... been keeping me awake at nights. Why do food tin cans have the corragated ridges in them?
The corrugation increases the can's rigidity and form without adding more material. The rings create a set of ribs, if you will, for the can giving it better resistance to pressure from the sides. Why do food tin cans have the corragated ridges in them?
I'm guessing that this is to allow the can to expand. Therefore, if the temperature increases and therefore the contents expand, then the can won't burst.
In the immortal words of my grandma--Because that's the way it is.
Excellent question. But I havent' got an answer. I go for the expansion theory thou.

I want to know why my fingernails have ridges and my nails are soft?
firstly get some silk nail wrap this will protect your nails.
The ridges everyone has them its just some nails are more visible. The nail wrap will stop your nails being soft. How can I get rid of ridges in my fingernails?
You may want to see a doctor first. You fingernails can tell a lot about your health. Otherwise, I think you buy ridge filler by the nail polishes and stuff. How can I get rid of ridges in my fingernails?
rub moisterizer in them.
they're probably dried out. or
use a cream especially for dried nails.
i use burts bees lemon butter cuticle cream. ( a little expensive)
or just soak ur nails in lemon juice. that supposed to strenthen r nails. it also whitens ur nails(only thw white parts)
Or buy a nail buffer. It's a healthy alternative to nailpolish. it should make ur nails smooth and shineyHow can I get rid of ridges in my fingernails?
I use a nail buffer to get rid of the ridges. It also gives my nails a lovely healthy shine to them, without using nail polish.
Usually caused by damage done to the nail bed.You can get them any number of ways. Buff your nails with a nail buffer, theres one on a 2 or 3 sided file ,or block.they do a great job.
It's a vitamin deficiency. Eat a better diet and take some multi vitamins.
well it is probably because of using nail polish what you can do is go to a nail salon and they will get rid of it
go see a manicurist
Ridges in your fingernails could be a symptom of other health problems, especially problems with your skin. Have yourself checked out by a doctor.
I'm sure I read it was diet related... I had them too and when I started eating healthier (greens, whole grains etc) they went away.

Why do cars have ridges in them?
I heard that it was for traction. Why do cars have ridges in them?
Hmm? Ridges. I thought you were talking about the ridges on the roof (which incidentally is for strength).
If you meant to ask why tires have ridges in them, yes, it is for traction. The proper term for them are sipes. The differing patterns allow a tire to do different things. Some are better for wet traction, some are better for mud, some are better for dry pavement only. No tire will be all things to all people, so you choose what's best for you. Anyway, I hope that I understood your question. Why do cars have ridges in them?

ie., for ROAD grip.ie., on wet roads /smooth roads.
Traction, strength of hull, plus it makes the car look sleek and aerodynamic.
Pls. be more specific. If you mean ';stiffeners'; they tend to make metal stronger than a flat surface.

Why does the Parks Highway from Nenana to Fairbanks Alaska, stay high on the ridges?
instead of staying along the Tanana River? Is it due to construction problems with permafrost? Why does the Parks Highway from Nenana to Fairbanks Alaska, stay high on the ridges?
I'd think economics would be the main reason it's built high, and permafrost, with the extra expense in road construction (and the resulting after-construction thermokarst problems) is the biggest reason it's cheaper to build where they did. Though constructing along an active river cut may alleviate some permafrost issues, flood threat and erosion would probably outweigh that advantage. Also, depending on the specific section, landslides would be significant factors as well. Many sections of that highway still were built on some sort of permafrost I imagine, it was just cheaper to build it higher.
Plus it gives the bazillion tourists nicer views :-)

What causes brittle fingernails with vertical ridges in them?
Nail textures: Vertical ridges that appear on the nail can indicate disorders as simple as iron deficiency, poor absorption of vitamins and nutrients, overall poor health or they could indicate something as serious as kidney trouble. (So, you see why consulting your physician is so important.) These vertical ridges, as well as bumpy nails, can also suggest that one is prone to developing arthritis. Ridges running horizontally across the nail can indicate physical or mental stress.
Age, health, medications, and cuticle care all play into the actual look of your nails. Dry skin too. Vertical ridges tend to show more from age issues and overall health. Horizontal ridges occur most often from picking at the cuticle area, or an infection in the cuticle. If your cuticles are puffy or swollen looking, there is probably infection present making the root of the nail sick, and that needs to be resolved.
To hide VERTICAL ridging, try using a ';ridge filling'; base coat. Make sure to let it dry completely before you apply polish though.
Horizontal ridges can also be caused by hormonal changes problems. they are caused by some birth control pillsWhat causes brittle fingernails with vertical ridges in them?
Poor nutrition. You are dieting too hard. What causes brittle fingernails with vertical ridges in them?
Lack of vitamins.
Take a pre-natal vitamin and it will solve the issue.

Probably, and if you do a search on Yahoo Answers some of these questions were kind of answered already.
No. The builders and developers are lobbying to build thousands and thousands of houses on it and Dalty would probably bow his head to them.

Why is a higher temperature required to form magma at the oceanic ridges than in the continental crust?
Magma does not form in the crust, either continental or oceanic. It forms below the crust by heat flowing upward from the earth's core. The heat is created by radioactive decay.

Can this be treated ?I seem to have developed ridges on my finger nails. Is this a vitamin deficiency ?
Fingernail condition has been used for thousands of years to accurately diagnose ailments and maladies in the body. Chinese physicians mastered this practice.
Fingernail changes may signify a number of disorders elsewhere in the body. These changes may indicate illness even before the rest of the body shows any signs. You should always seek professional help if any of the below changes are observed on the nail.

Brittle nails may indicate possible iron deficiencyI seem to have developed ridges on my finger nails. Is this a vitamin deficiency ?
Yes it is, it is a vitamin or mineral deficiency, but I'm sorry I can't remember exactly which one. I had a mineral and vitamin book somewhere I read it in. I know white spots indicate zinc deficiency. Try a Naturopath for advice?

Mid-Ocean Ridges such as the East Pacific Ridge are best described as?
1. Mountains containing folded sedimentary rocks
2. Plateaus containing fossils of present-day marine life
3. Sections of the ocean floor that contain the youngest oceanic
crust
4. Sections of the ocean floor that are the remains of a
submerged continent
If you do find the answer, could you say the answer and give some supporting evidence, thanks!Mid-Ocean Ridges such as the East Pacific Ridge are best described as?
4 is incorrect, the continental plates move, not sink
2 is incorrect, if it was present day, it would not be a fossil would it? it would be remains, and ridge and plateau mean separate things.
1 is likely incorrect, because the ocean floor is youngest at these points because it is created from magma from below pushing outwards, so it is not likely to be sedimentary rock.
3 is likely the correct answer.
Lastly, stop cheating, man up and take your test and show integrity, if you do poorly then stopp boozing it up with your buddies and study harder.Mid-Ocean Ridges such as the East Pacific Ridge are best described as?
Folded sedimentary rocks form only on continents and continental margins and not in oceans.
Ridge/rift systems are not plateaux.
There are sections of the ocean floor which are the remains of submerged continents, like the Falklands Plateau, but they are not at the mid ocean ridge.
The mid ocean ridge is the place where new young oceanic crust is forming, so the answer is 3.
3 is correct. Mid ocean ridges can be describe as a place where two plates of the earths crust move away from each other. This causes a gap which is filled by the magma rising from the earths mantle.. This new magma is cooled by the ocean water and forms new crust.

Why are shallow earthquakes associated with mid-ocean ridges? What type of fault is responsible?
i have no idea what the answers is .. really need some help :)
thanxWhy are shallow earthquakes associated with mid-ocean ridges? What type of fault is responsible?
The crust is pulling apart and the top of the ridge has a graben or rift valley in it with normal faults on each side -- as the crust pulls apart, the crust slides down the walls of the valley. Hence the quakes are shallow.

Approximatly, how long of a drive is it from Saint John NB, to Oak Ridges Ontario?
My parents need to get to Oak Ridges this weekend, from about Saint John NB, to see my grandfather, who is unfortunately passing away. They don't know if the car can handle it. Google Maps makes it about 15 hours and a bit. The caveat is that the website finds Oak Ridges in Richmond Hill, just outside of Toronto. If this isn't the Oak Ridges you want, we'll have to do a different search, maybe with a different spelling.

Getting ridges out of dried cement?
Anyone know how to 'shave off' 1mm random ridges in dried cement? What tools are required?Getting ridges out of dried cement?
Rent a side grinder and a few grinding wheels depending on the length of the ridges it should not take all that long to do.
Be sure you use saftey goggles and leather gloves for your personal protection SAFTEY FIRST.Getting ridges out of dried cement?
It depends on what the concrete base is to be used for. If it's for a conservatory,or shed then use levelling compound, also this can also be used indoors. It is costly to hire a concrete planer.
Hope this helps. have a nice evening
Hi - The cheapest way would be to use a carborundum brick.
They are about 225mm x 50mm x 25mm and you can buy them from tile shops ( they are used to smooth cut edges of tiles). Just rub the stone gently over the ridges.
Is it inside or outside, cos if its inside, you can use levelling compound.
You can hire a concrete planer from any hire shop but can be costly.
could cost 拢30-50 a day.
hope this helps.

Why does my 7 1/2 month old baby have vertical ridges on her fingernails?
My daughter has ridges on most of her fingernails. They were not like this when she was born but over the last month I have noticed them. They are vertical but sort of diaganoly vertical if that makes sense. They seem to come from the middle third of the nail bed then as you get to the tip of the nail they spread out. I've googled it but it most of the results were about them happening in old age...Any answers would be appreciated. xxWhy does my 7 1/2 month old baby have vertical ridges on her fingernails?
sometimes this is normal but it can also be an indication of a vitamin deficiency.
I would call her pediatrician and discuss it w/him or her first. they will let you know if she needs to be evaluated. Why does my 7 1/2 month old baby have vertical ridges on her fingernails?
I have heard about this yet I cannot recall exactly what kind but I believe it is a nutritional/vitamin deficiency.
I would recommend asking the child's doctor.
I think I have those same ridges, and I've had them for as long as I can remember looking at my hands! I'm sure it's nothing to worry about... :)
Kids nails are usually weak and flimsy, break easily and usually don't have to be cut as they break off themselves. I have these ridges on my nails and I have had them as long as I can remember, my nails break really easily too. I don't think it is a big thing to worry about, but if it concerns you next check up with a Doc or health worker ask them and see what they say about it.
I think it has something to do with the thyroid . There is a holistic practitioner here that says often times the heavy metals in vaccines can cause thyroid disfunction I also agree that it could be a vitamin defiency. This is just what I've determined many people have the ridges and after detoxing their system and taking a good calcium supplement they have dissappeared . There are chelating lotions for babies to rid there systems of mercury aluminum and so on you can get the baby tested . Here they use a darfield microscope. Very neat procedure b/c you can actually get the results that day.

It matters not. Whatever your avatar, your vestigial intelligence (so long as it lasts) will always maintain our association with the homo sapiens you used to be. But when you sense that your last word is about to become a grunt, let us know. We shall organize a banana drive for you.
Edit - I see that a standard scientific phrase has been blue pencilled by Yahoo spell check. Perhaps our first banana drive should be for the rocket scientistists that program that.
Sure, that will solve everything.
My nails have these ridges on them. I hate it! What can I do to get rid of them?
Some people say it has to do with nutrition, some say it's permanent...I just need a solution! My nails have these ridges on them. I hate it! What can I do to get rid of them?
its definitely perminent.. its just how yours grow. its not malnutrition or anything. but what you can do is buff them out.. if you get a buffing brush you can use the coarse side to get rid of the ridges and theres usually a finishing side that will smooth it out. sometimes theres like a leather side too so that you can get a shine. it only takes like five minutes every 2 weeks or so, or how ever often you wantMy nails have these ridges on them. I hate it! What can I do to get rid of them?
Don't be scared but I had ridges on one finger for years and now I realize that the ridges were actually nail bed psoriasis. When I was 41 years old, I developed psoriasis on my body and most of my nails have it. It's not too bad. I just don't stress about it.
Buff them. It works. I have had them before and they went away.
get one of those 3 surface buffers and buff the heck out of them. they'll be even and shiny and beautiful
Go with the first answer. Buff them! It makes your nails look so shiny that it looks like your wearing clear nail polish... but yu're not!

How are mid-ocean ridges and trenches similar, and how do they differ?
this is a science question i just cannot figure out. please help. thank youHow are mid-ocean ridges and trenches similar, and how do they differ?
Mid ocean ridges occur at constructive plate boundaries where 2 oceanic plates are moving apart. The ridge is made up of the extruded lava that wells up when the plates move apart. The best example of one is the Mid Atlantic Ridge.
Ocean trenches occur in front of subduction zones, also known as destructive boundaries. This is where one plate is sinking beneath another. Where the plate being subducted goes down it forms a very deep trench. Examples would be off the coast of Chile or the Marianas trench on the other side of the Pacific.
This is just very basic but hopefully gives you enough of an idea to find out whatever else you need. How are mid-ocean ridges and trenches similar, and how do they differ?

Similar: because they part of plate tectonics
Differ: mid ocean ridges- like a mountain that is continually separating
Trenches- a deep trench, where one plate subducts under another plate

Why have I ridges on my nails and is there a good product that helps cover them?
ridges can be a symptom of other condition. for example, pitted nails occur when you have a form of psoriasis. Also, is it all your nails? if not, maybe that one was damaged in some way, slammed in a door as a child etc. Consult a doctor if it is all of them ridged. A good place to look up symptoms is Mayo clinic.com Can help you sort out if it is serious or cosmetic problem. A good manicurest can help with covering the problem.

Manicurist: which is the safest and fastest for ridges?
Electrical sander/buffer or manual sander/buffer?
Also, to avoid both of those, I've tried ridge-filler and felt like an idiot, since none works without three coats first, and I'm no longer willing to spend that much time on my nails.
Are both electric and manual ridge sanders dangerous to the health of the nail? Do you have a professional alternative I'm unaware of?Manicurist: which is the safest and fastest for ridges?
electric ones seem really harsh. several swipes from every step of a 4-sided buffer should do the trick. don't try to get rid of all your ridges in one sitting. they will wear away if you buff lightly regularly.Manicurist: which is the safest and fastest for ridges?
Manual.. It may take some time, but you'll get there. Just be patient. =)

What is the difference between oceanic volcanoes, submarine volcanoes and mid ocean ridges?
Mid Ocean ridges are areas on the earth's surface where continental plates diverge. Diverging means moving apart. Plate move apart at mid ocean ridges because at mid ocean ridges, magma from the earth's mantle rises to the surface and forms new crust. This crust pushes older crust crust away, causing the plates that crust is on to move or ';diverge';
The other other two are volcanoes found in the ocean, and submarine volcanoes refer specifically to those that are below the water's surface.

Ridges in your nail a sign of thyroid problem?
I read once where ';ridges in your nails'; could be a sign of a thyroid condition. Does anyone have a more detailed explanation of that, or perhaps a link to a photo? I have ridges in my nails, but I heard that its from washing my hands too much. I also heard its from lack of some food group. Like I need more protein or something like that. I don't think its anything serious, I've had them for a long time now.

Lack of proteins. Try increasing your uptake on protein: drink gelatin (ones that is used for making aspic); or eat lots of organic nut butters (peanut, cashew or almond) from a health food store. You'll notice the difference in a few days. Why do you get ridges in your fingernail as you get older?

I've had ridges on my fingernails since I was a teenager. Someone told me once that it's a sign of anemia. But I've been tested, and I'm not anemic. Maybe it's a vitamin deficiency of some sort? I know I've never liked milk, so I'm pretty sure I've never had enough calcium in my diet. Why do you get ridges in your fingernail as you get older?
Vertical nail ridges are fairly common and often become more numerous as you age. The exact cause of such ridging isn't known, heredity may play a role.
If your fingernails change color or develop horizontal ridges, see your doctor. These changes may indicate underlying health problems, such as respiratory disease, malnutrition or even heart attack.
Ridges in the fingernails is most likely a dificiency of B-Complex. Stress, medications, sugars and alcohol all rob the body of B vitamins. It's important to take the B vitamins in a complex and all brands are not the same.
Hope this is helpful and feel free to contact me with questions.

I have a lot of ridges on my nails... Is there a way to get rid of them?
I want to paint my nails but it's always bumpy because of my ridges..I have a lot of ridges on my nails... Is there a way to get rid of them?
You can buy multi sided nail buffers like at wal mart and what not. One side is for smoothing it out, one side helps smooth it out, once side buffs, and the last side makes it shiny. They are really inexpensive and they work miracles. They are in the nail section by the nail polish and the clippers and all of that fun stuff. Also it might help a lot if you get some sort of cuticle cream. I use a brand called hard as hoofs and it is also in the nail isle. I hope this helps.I have a lot of ridges on my nails... you could start by taking in more calcium, that is a sign of a calcium deficiency.

Is it normal for a penis to have ridges in the shaft?
Like when you rub it back and forth I can feel ridges in my mine, like rubbing back and forth on a ribbed condom (but not THAT obvious). The ridges are in the inside, not the skin. (Sorry I can't think of a better way to describe it). My friend says that's weird and he doesn't have it. But I always have. Who is normal, me or my friend? Is it normal for a penis to have ridges in the shaft?
Sounds like an issue to discuss with your urologist. Is it normal for a penis to have ridges in the shaft?
Thats how most penis are internally, so if can feel the ridges when your hard it may mean that your skin is thin either genetically or your penis has grown faster than your skin, so it is stretched thin. I wouldn't worry about it being an issue. Your skin may thicken as you get older or if your already full grown, it may just be the way your are. It can only pleasure a girl, so think about it that way.
If you mean the back of the shaft, then that's quite common.
we're all built differently dude... i think it's kinda hott... you got your own built in ribbing... ;-)
interesting avatar btw....
yeah i'm the same i dunno what it is but like u can see and feel ridges but it doesn't make u any different so yeah;)

As far as I know you seem deficient in your B vitamins. May I suggest you go to the health food store and ask for a B complex vitamin and start taking this . It most certainly will reduce the ridges in your nails . Good luck.

Why does the suface of Miranda and Ariel appear to have so many ridges and craters?
I am currently doin a research project on the topic of Uranus and its moons and i found that the ridges and uneven surfaces of both of thoes two moons were somethin to talk about so can someone please answer my question and your response and time wil be greatly appreciated! Why does the suface of Miranda and Ariel appear to have so many ridges and craters?
Miranda and Ariel are different in the sense that thier orbital distance from Uranus varies by as much as 1,00,00,000 kms.
Yet they dispaly similar topography and chemical composition in the atmosphere and the surface. However suggesting that Ariel might have had the same composition.
The ridges are basically the result of a neo orbital tilt and a vibrant orbital plasma. the innoxious cooling of the surfaces gases at minus 171 degrees celecius results in a wobbly surface.

You see the surface of miranda is ridgy because it is believed that once a huge meteroite came and crashed into it and it broke into several pieces. but due to its gravitational force it brought itself together again. this is why it has so many ridges.
And about areial one explanation may be that at some time in the distant past Ariel might have been much warmer than it is now. If this is the case, some of the ice in the moon may have melted and smoothed out the surface of the moon and then more recent geological activity may have formed the long, wide grooves. Once again, it's a question that only extended research will provide the answer

My teeth never grew out(I don't want to tell everyone my story mmk),so I've had ridges(Bumpy teeth) on my front %26amp; bottom teeth.I guess I get the fronts grinded down in 3 weeks. So I just wanted to know if I was the only one and should I be embarrassed? Its basically why I don't like smiling D=.Am I the Only one here at age 14 that still has ridges on both bottom and front teeth?
You're talking about the bumps along the top of your teeth, right? I'm 26 and I still have them on my bottom teeth. It's just because my teeth were out of alignment and never ground down the way they were supposed to. It's not a big deal, and you're getting it taken care of anyway. I wouldn't worry about it.Am I the Only one here at age 14 that still has ridges on both bottom and front teeth?
Don't be alarmed because you are not the only one. You are still very young and at your age where your body is still at its development stage, correcting the problem is unlimited. Tackle such difficulties, if you have a dentist in school, have your teeth checked for proper treatment. The dentist knows best how you will treat those ridges. Good luck to you.
No, I've seen other people who are older and still have them. Those people tend to have harder teeth and so they don't wear away as quickly. Having those bumps also shows that you don't grind your teeth like many people do. That's what can also cause wear and tear on the teeth.
Be kind to your teeth. They know what they are supposed to do. That's how they grow into adult form. Being ';perfect'; should not cause a lifetime of painful chewing and drinking due to peer pressure messing your mind.

What can I use to clean my big screen tv, it's one of those kinds with ridges in the screen?

If it is like a projection screen, (like plastic and ridges) you can use warm water, and soap..If it'a a LCD screen, use 50% water and 50% alcohol, spray on a soft, clean cloth, and turn off the screen, rub, gently..A regular CRT screen, you can use windex, and a paper towel.
