Can vertical ridges on your thumbnails be an indication that the body is lacking a vitamin/mineral?

I've also heard it can indicate that an internal organ is not functioning properly. Does anyone know anything about this?Can vertical ridges on your thumbnails be an indication that the body is lacking a vitamin/mineral?
There are myriad explanations:

';RIDGES can appear either vertically or horizontally. Vertical ridges indicate poor general health, poor nutrient absorption, and/or iron deficiency; they may also indicate a kidney disorder. Horizontal ridges can occur as a result of severe stress, either psychological or physical, such as from infection and/or disease. Ridges running up and down the nails also indicate a tendency to develop arthritis.';

Physical - Imposing excessive load or force to the nails, including stressing of the Nail Beds due to excessive leverage forces imposed by long nails, particularly false nails, Nail biting, Tight fitting shoes.

Chemical - False nail adhesives, Nail varnishes, Mail Varnish remover solvents, harsh detergents, household products, workplace chemicals, Nicotine deposits, etc

Physiological - Poor diet, Fungal, Viral and Microbial attack to the fingernail area, substance abuse, medications, Alcohol abuse, Sickness, Genetic ageing, Mental stress, etcCan vertical ridges on your thumbnails be an indication that the body is lacking a vitamin/mineral?
For me, this was caused by picking at the cuticle compulsively, causing damage to the nail. Stopped picking at it and the nail returned to normal.
